26th October 2020: Join Ian Riley as he discusses the EU-ETS and its impacts on the European Cement Industry with Michael Mehling, Anne Dekeukelaere and Vincent Lefebvre in WCA's first Clinker Factor podcast.
Vincent Lefebvre: Vincent Lefebvre is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Cem’In’Eu, an industrial start-up with a new cement production and marketing concept. The company has 7 innovative cement grinding projects at different stages of development in Europe, targeting markets in France, Switzerland, Germany, Poland and the UK. Before founding Cem’in’EU, he was President of Cimens Kercim, an independent cement grinder in France. From 2010-2013 Mr Lefebvre was CEO of Holcim Spain and before this, country manager of Holcim France. In addition to cement, he has worked in the concrete, aggregates, mortar and construction chemicals fields and has a total of 35 years of construction materials experience.
Anne Dekeukelaere: Anne, MBA, 25 years experience in the cement industry of which 13 years as senior executive within the industry leader Holcim before creating "Cementis". She managed several important strategic projects and business plans worldwide within the Corporate Strategy Department of Holcim. She then became Deputy to the Senior Vice-President responsible for North Africa & Middle East. Later, she joined the Alternative Fuel worldwide division of Holcim to expand the co-processing concept within the group. In 2008 she decided to capitalize on her deep experience of the cement industry and started her own company Cementis. The company since then has managed several large sustainable development projects for international cement groups and leading financial organizations worldwide such as IFC, EBRD, GIZ. In order to keep up with the latest academic developments in sustainability she decided to sign up for a Sustainability Master Program from the university of Harvard and graduated this year with a thesis on EU ETS phase 4 and low CO2 cement.
Michael Mehling: Michael Mehling is Deputy Director of the MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research and a Professor at the University of Strathclyde Law School. He is also a founding board member of Ecologic Institute in Washington DC, the Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) in London, and the European Roundtable on Climate Change and Sustainable Transition (ERCST) in Brussels. In these roles, he has coordinated research and advisory projects for international organizations, government agencies, and civil society organizations in North America, Europe, and the developing world. A German and American citizen, he has lived for extended periods in Europe, the United States, and Latin America.
