London, 31 July 2019 – The World Cement Association announced today that West China Cement, one of China’s leading cement companies, is the latest addition to its international membership, now spanning 38 countries. West china Cement joins as a Corporate Member.  

“We are delighted to welcome West China Cement into the WCA family,” said Vincent Lefebvre, Chairman of the World Cement Association. “Over the last 30 years it has played a key role in restructuring and upgrading the cement industry in China, and has been a major advocate of improving transparency and sustainability in the sector so we are really looking forward to working together in the years ahead.”

West China Cement is one of China’s foremost building materials enterprises in China, employing more than 6,000 people. Production capacity is spread across nearly 40 subsidiaries, and totals 30 million tpa cement, 10 million tpa aggregate and 10 million m3pa of commercial concrete. It has been listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong since 2010.

“Today’s global cement sector is evolving rapidly, and we all face new and significant challenges, which we believe can best be tackled together,” said Weiping Ma, CEO of West China Cement. “The WCA has provided a strong global voice for the cement industry and we look forward to contributing to future discussions, working with its leaders and members to share ideas, insights and best practice.”

London, 17 July 2019 – The World Cement Association announced today that it has appointed Mr. Mohammed A. Al-Garni as Vice President. As well as being a long-standing Director and Board Member of the WCA, Mr Al-Garni is Chief Executive Officer of Saudi Cement Company.

Mr. Al-Garni has 35 years of experience in the cement sector and as a member of the National Cement Companies Committee has developed significant knowledge and managerial expertise in the cement industry.

“It is a great honour to be chosen as the new Vice President of the World Cement Association and I am really excited to participate in helping it grow further, supporting the association in its role as the voice of the cement industry globally,” said Mr. Al-Garni.

He holds a range of roles, including Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saudi Cement Company’s affiliates — United Cement Company (UCC) in Bahrain, and the Cement Product Industry Co. Ltd. (CPI) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and is a member of the Arab Union for Cement & Building Materials (AUCBM).

Mr. Al-Garni was the Project Director for Saudi Cement’s largest cement manufacturing facility expansion project, wherein they successfully installed, erected and commissioned two lines of 10,000 TPD capacity, which was considered the largest project of its kind in the whole region at that time.

The President of the World Cement Association, Mr. Zhiping Song commented: “We are delighted Mr. Al-Garni has accepted the Vice Presidency of the WCA. His appointment reflects the growing importance of Saudi Arabia in the global cement industry, as well as the WCA’s commitment to connecting the cement community in all countries across the world.” 

On July 3rd, WCA Vice President and SCC CEO, Mr. Mohammed Ali Al-Garni met with CUCC Chairman, Mr. Xingtai Cui and Director General of WCA Beijing Representative Office, Mr. Frank Liu.

They had in-depth discussions on the cement market status in China and Saudi Arabia, as well as sharing thoughts on the upcoming WCA World Cement Conference, which this year will be hosted at the Hyatt Hotel in Shanghai on September 9th-11th.

On May 11, 2019 at its annual meeting in Beijing the China Association for Public Companies (CAPCO) elected WCA President Song Zhiping as its new Chairman.

CAPCO is a national self-regulatory organization and a non-profit organization incorporated by publicly listed companies and relevant entities in accordance with the Securities Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Regulation on the Registration and Administration of Organizations and other applicable laws and regulations in China. The aim of CAPCO is to facilitate standardized regulation of the capital markets and preserve the lawful rights and interests of its members.

Like WCA, CAPCO is a strong promoter of sustainable business. Indeed CAPCO has signed up to the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact with respect to human rights, labour, environment and anti corruption.

London, 26 November – The World Cement Association (WCA) today announces a further expansion to its international membership and welcomes Hefei Cement Research and Design Institute in China as an Associate Corporate member.

“We are delighted that Hefei Cement Research and Design Institute is joining our global network. It’s important for us to have members in our association which represent different countries as well as different areas of the cement industry,” said Norman Greig, General Secretary of the World Cement Association. “This allows us to share a broad spectrum of expertise among our membership.”

Hefei Cement Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., is a leading research institute in China. The institute was founded over 60 years ago and in 1999 became part of China’s biggest cement company, China National Building Material Group Corporation (CNBM).

Today, the institute is mainly engaged in the research and development of cement production technology and equipment as well as cement plant engineering design.

“We are honoured to become an associate member of the World Cement Association. We expect to have good cooperation with other members in the WCA family. Over the last 60 years we have been trying our best to serve the needs of the cement plants at home and abroad. And in this process, we have developed strength in cement technology development, in cement equipment manufacturing and supply and in cement projects engineering, especially renovation and upgradation projects engineering. The challenges that our industry is facing today is enormous. It takes the joint efforts of the entire world cement community to tackle it. Together with all other WCA members we shall make our share of contribution,” said Mr. Zhou Yunfeng, Executive Director.

With a membership base representing more than 1.3 billion tons of annual cement production capacity the WCA’s network spans 38 countries around the world.

The WCA will hold its General Assembly and WCA World Cement Conference in association with Intercem at the Royal Garden Hotel in London on 5 December. WCA members and stakeholder will come together to discuss future challenges for the industry, such as digitalisation, demand and supply and climate change. London, 11 September 2018 – The World Cement Association announced today that JK Cement, one of India’s leading cement producer, has joined the organisation. With JK Cement joining as a Corporate Member, the association has further grown its global network.

JK Cement Ltd is an affiliate of the industry conglomerate JK Organisation which was founded in the early 1900s and today has a leading presence in several industries ranging from cement to tyres and textiles.

With an annual grey cement capacity of 10.5 Mt. and a grey cement capacity expansion by 4.5 Mt. under progress, JK Cement is one of the leading cement manufacturers in India. It is also one of the two major players in the white cement market in the country with an annual capacity of 0.6 Mt.
