London, 15 October 2019 - The World Cement Association announced today it has further expanded its international network of members by welcoming Asia Cement, a Taiwan-based company principally engaged in the production, transportation and sales of cement and clinker, as a Corporate Member.
“We are pleased that Asia Cement is joining our global network. It’s important for us to have members in our association that represent different countries as well as different areas of the cement industry,” said Ian Riley, CEO of the World Cement Association. “This allows us to share a broad spectrum of expertise among our membership, particularly around using the latest technologies to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.”
As well as deploying eco-friendly equipment, the company uses the most modern rotary kilns and has also introduced a waste-heat recycling generator to transform waste heat and hot air into electricity. In addition, Asia Cement has established storage and transportation facilities in the Keelung, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien harbors to lower transportation costs.
Asia Cement produces five million tons of clinker annually from its three plants located in Hsinchu, Hualien and NanHwa, Taiwan. The Hualien plant received an Environmental Protection Award from the Taiwan Environmental Protection Agency for three consecutive years.
“As a prominent Taiwanese cement group that shares the WCA’s vision of tackling environmental issues together, we are very pleased to be joining this international platform for change alongside so many prestigious member companies from around the world,” says Douglas Tong Hsu, Chairman at Asia Cement. “This is an important step that enables us to continue our sustained efforts to innovate and achieve energy efficiency and environmental protection.”
Founded in 1957, the company sells its products to Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, North America, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Asia Cement is also engaged in marine transportation, investment businesses, and the manufacture and trading of stainless products through its subsidiaries. Moreover, Asia Cement began to invest in China from 1994. Currently, with the production and sale bases in Jiangxi, Sichuan, Hubei, Yangzhou, and Shanghai, the total cement production capacity in China reaches 36 million MT.
