WCA's IWD2020 Mini-Series: JK Cement on Gender Diversity

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2020, held on Sunday 8th March, WCA are sharing a blog mini-series, highlighting the achievements of women across the global cement industry and showcasing where our members are working hard to achieve gender equality and diversity in their companies.

JK Cement is an Indian Cement producer, headquartered in Kanpur, with operations across India and the UAE, and a production capacity of 12.7mtpa. Here is how they are acting on gender diversity and female empowerment, both this International Women’s Day, and more broadly across their business, in their own words.

“At JK Cement, we acknowledge that women’s strength is not merely represented by the numbers of women in our company, but in terms of their invaluable contribution they bring while working with us. Be it at board level or a mining engineer, we salute the intangible as well as tangible results they bring to the business.

Women’s empowerment and providing equal opportunity to them is an utmost priority at JK Cement, and the management has always been very conscious of the fact that a healthy environment for work helps unleash potential and nurture talent free of any gender bias.

That is why, in our endeavour is to make our employees celebrate the feeling of gratitude to each and every woman in one’s life, be it in the professional or the personal life, this year we are running a special social media campaign #womenofjkcement to celebrate the contribution of the women in our company.

Our policies and practices ensure that the company promotes the participation of women across various platforms. Our policies are mostly gender neutral and in fact are women-friendly.

To specify a few, our travel policy has a special provision for female employees to ensure that safety and security is taken care of while travelling for work. Gender sensitivity & POSH training (sexual harassment awareness) has been included as part of the staff training calendar to create awareness at all levels and is a mandatory module in our online learning system. Flexible work timetables have been introduced to support work life balance & provide safe working environment.

JK Cement continues to strive to become an employer of choice and equal opportunity employer. Our “Great Place to Work Certification” awarded to us this year will help us in strengthening our gender diversity and inclusion efforts."
