Responding to the Taiwan government's second four-year economic development plan, Asia Cement Corporation (ACC) was founded in 1957. It built its first manufacturing plant in Hengshan Township, Hsinchu County. In 1973, in response to the government's call to develop eastern Taiwan, the company established its second plant in Hsincheng Township, Hualien County. Asia Cement and its "Skyscraper" brand cement has always occupied the core position in Taiwan's cement business.
Asia Cement now produces 5Mta of cement from its three cement plants in Hsinchu, Hualien and NanHwa, Taiwan. The Company uses the most modern rotary kilns and introduced a waste-heat recycling generator to transform waste heat and hot air into electricity. In addition, for lower cement transportation costs, Asia Cement established storage and transportation facilities in Keelung, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien harbours.
The Company's "Three Highs and One Low" strategy (High Quality, High Efficiency, High Environmental Protection, and Low Cost), along with its management capability, have given the company the competitive edge to efficiently face challenges in the market.
The Company has not only deployed eco-friendly equipment in their plants, but also has made it a priority to revegetate and reforest their quarrying and mining locations, transforming them into wildlife parks. In addition to being awarded the first certification of ISO-14001 Environmental Management Systems in Taiwan, the Hualien plant received the "Environmental Protection Award" for three consecutive years, and thus was awarded a special honour in 1998. This has set the benchmark in Taiwan's cement industry, making Asia Cement a model business for both economic development and environmental protection.
